San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Pedestrian Processing Facility Opens

Southern California’s San Ysidro Land Port of Entry is the busiest port of entry in the western hemisphere. Hensel Phelps, Stantec delivered a complete reconstruction of the port’s pedestrian and bus-inspection facilities for the U.S. General Services Administration and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The transformational project is designed to LEED Platinum and stringent energy reduction targets. It enhances the ability of CBP and other federal agencies to conduct their missions.

Revamped Terminal F at Philadelphia International is an architectural glass showcase

Designed by The Sheward Partnership, an award-winning, Philadelphia-based architecture firm, Terminal F’s new 34,000-square-foot baggage claim building features a striking geometric appearance. Clad in a mix of glass and metal, the two-floor facility offers abundant natural daylighting and is the airport’s first building to earn LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Portland apartment building achieves LEED Gold Certification

Sustainable features in the apartment units include large double-pane, low E, insulated windows that provide natural light, high-efficiency systems for lighting and mechanical (HVAC), water-efficient fixtures and Energy Star appliances. There is preferred parking for electric vehicles, and there are recycling facilities on-site for residents. Low VOC emitting materials were used during construction, and construction waste was safely recycled, reused and disposed of accordingly.

New Holtec International headquarters features glass fabricated by J.E. Berkowitz

J.E. Berkowitz (JEB) announced the completion of Holtec International’s new corporate headquarters on the company’s 50-acre Krishna P. Singh Technology Campus in Camden, New Jersey. Built on the former site of the New York Shipbuilding Corp., the seven-story building features 58,000 square feet of glass fabricated by JEB, and is serving as a catalyst for the redevelopment of the surrounding area. For the project, JEB fabricated Winduo™ insulating glass units (IGUs) in multiple configurations, featuring low-e Solarban® 60 glass and performance-tinted Pacifica® glass by Vitro Architectural Glass. JEB also fabricated IGUs incorporating Solarban 60 glass and clear glass with a ceramic frit in a custom tropic blue color. R.A. Kennedy & Sons served as the contract glazier for the project.

Canada Green Building Council certifies Bentall Kennedy office building as Canada’s first Zero Carbon Building – Performance certification

The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) announced that 100 Murray Street in Ottawa, ON has been awarded Canada’s first Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) – Performance certification. The Bentall Kennedy managed, Class A commercial office building achieved LEED Gold for Existing Buildings certification in 2016 and, through continued energy efficiency and carbon reduction measures, was able to demonstrate a balance of zero carbon emissions for this certification.
