Arkansas nonprofit received $440K to construct 56-unit housing development

Strategic Community Investments of Fort Smith, Arkansas, was recently awarded a $440,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from Arvest Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas). The grant will help fund the construction of Electric Park, a 56-unit apartment and four-plex community for low- to very low-income, special-needs, elderly and homeless individuals.

Local governments vote resoundingly for improved efficiency in national model energy code

Voting results on the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) are in, and the approved proposals will bring an estimated 10% or more efficiency improvement for both residential and commercial buildings that follow the IECC. The IECC is a model energy code that sets minimum efficiency standards for residential and commercial buildings related to walls, floors, ceilings, lighting, windows, doors, duct leakage, air leakage, etc. It serves as the go-to basis for states and some cities that can control their building codes to develop local requirements.

Architecture Billings Index ends year on positive note

Demand for design services in December increased for the third month in a row, according to a new report today from The American Institute of Architects (AIA). “Despite the ongoing slowdown in billings in the Northeast, balanced growth across sectors and regions looks more positive for the coming year,” said AIA Chief Economist, Kermit Baker, Hon. AIA, PhD. “Factors outside of the construction sector, such as trade policy and international events, could still impact demand for design services, however recent fears about a downturn in construction activity have largely subsided.”
