Farmington Hills, Mich. (Apr. 4, 2019) – The ACI Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of two new trustees—Robert J. Frosch and William E. Rushing. They join Michael J. Schneider, current Chair of the Board of Trustees, who begins his second three-year term, and eight other serving trustees.
The ACI Foundation is a non-profit organization established by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) to promote progress, innovation, and collaboration by supporting research and scholarships, while also serving as an independent resource to provide thought leadership and strategic direction for the concrete industry.
Frosch is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. An ACI Fellow, he serves on several ACI committees, including: 224: Cracking, 318: Structural Concrete Building Code, 440: Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Reinforcement, and 445: Shear and Torsion. He earned his BSE in civil engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans, and MSE and PhD in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving his PhD, he worked with Modjeski and Masters Consulting Engineers on several projects, including the seismic retrofit of the San Mateo Bridge crossing the San Francisco Bay in California.
Throughout his career at Purdue University and association with ACI, Frosch has received the Arthur J. Boase Award, the Young Educator Achievement Award, the Harold Munson Teaching Award, the Edmund M. Burke Outstanding Professor Award, the Roy E. and Myrna Wansik Civil Engineering Research Award, the Young Members Award for Professional Achievement, and the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.
Rushing is a Vice President and Manager of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Waldemar S. Nelson & Co., Inc, New Orleans, LA. Rushing is a Past President of ACI (2014-2015) and a past ACI Board Director. An ACI Fellow, he serves on several ACI committees, including: ACI Chapter Activities, 314: Simplified Design of Concrete Buildings, 351: Foundations for Equipment and Machinery, and 376: Concrete Structures for Refrigerated Liquefied Gas Containment.
Rushing is the recipient of several awards including the 2004 Louisiana Chapter – ACI Activity Award, the 2010 Chapter Distinguished Member Award, the 2011 ACI Henry L. Kennedy Award, and the 2018 ACI Education Award. Rushing received his BS in civil engineering from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA, in 1981. He is a licensed professional engineer in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
