New York City government is one of the growing number of organizations now leading by example, updating energy policy to aim for Passive House – the world’s most rigorous energy efficiency design standard. During the recent North American Passive House Network Conference (NAPHN16), 700 attendees celebrated the 10th anniversary of the first certified Passive House in the US, while setting sights on growing the burgeoning Passive House building movement, which has taken root in America’s largest metropolis.

“Passive House is the one critical tool we have today that can help establish a carbon-free society and can answer the climate crisis we are facing,” said Ken Levenson, Co-President of NAPHN and COO of 475 High Performance Building Supply.

Conference attendees, which included building professionals of all sectors, were eager to find solutions for planning efficient buildings. Of particular interest were airtight building systems, as they are fundamental to building efficiently, and are a requirement of the Passive House standard. Until recently, high quality air tightness systems have been difficult to obtain or install in North America. Credit: PRNewsFoto/Pro Clima

At their booth, 475 High Performance Building Supply presented detailed solutions. “Passive House is technical but we offer solutions for safe constructions while allowing for a good looking design,” said Floris Keverling Buisman, CEO of 475, “For example, our newly acquired Victoria window provides airtightness and high levels of insulation, while offering an appearance capable of passing Historic Preservation aesthetic requirements.”
