New Bentley University Arena Named the Most Environmentally Sustainable in the Nation

The new, state-of-the-art multipurpose Bentley Arena is the most environmentally sustainable in the U.S. and the first standalone ice arena to earn the LEED platinum certification, the highest possible rating, according to the U.S. Green Building Council. The award for the recently opened, 76,000-square-foot arena highlights the building’s sustainable design and energy efficiency and Bentley University’s continued rise as an innovative, nationally-recognized business university.

DSM Opens New Seven-Acre Solar Field in Kingstree, South Carolina

Royal DSM opened a new 7.61-acre solar field in Kingstree, South Carolina. The field uses DSM Anti-Reflective coating technology to increase solar output and will help power the neighboring DSM Nutritional Products facility. The 4,256 solar panels at the Kingstree field use DSM’s Anti-Reflective coating, the company’s flagship product for the solar market, which maximizes energy capture up to three percent. The coating is applied to the cover the glass of the solar modules and strongly reduces the reflection of sunlight.

Sound Transit Breaks Ground on New Light Rail Base in Seattle Area

The design-build team of Hensel Phelps Construction Co, Stantec and partners, will deliver the new $218 million OMF East. Hensel Phelps and Stantec bring more than 140 combined years of design and construction experience to the project. The 165,000-square-foot facility will provide 14 service bays, a cleaning and wash bay, shop areas, parts storage, office space, and on-site parking for service and employee vehicles.

California Military Department’s New Zero Net Energy Consolidated Headquarters Complex Breaks Ground

The design-build team of Walsh Construction Company II and Stantec will deliver the new $135 million CHQC. The CHQC is one of the first large scale new Zero Net Energy (ZNE) projects that will be implemented by the State of California after the issuance of Gov. Jerry Brown’s Executive Order B-18-12 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency in California. The project is targeting LEED Gold certification and will be constructed to achieve a variety of sustainable goals to reduce environmental impact, optimize performance, lower energy and operating costs, conserve resources, and increase occupant satisfaction and productivity.

Phase One of Lemonwood Elementary in Oxnard School District Opens

The new Lemonwood Elementary campus will house 900 K-8 students.  The project has been strategically developed on a fully occupied campus with minimal disturbance and no interim housing. The completed first phase includes the main classroom and multipurpose buildings. Phase two, currently underway, will include new kindergarten classrooms and administration buildings, and will be completed in 2019. Additionally, Building 3 of the original campus will be repurposed to provide “flex rooms” for enhanced kindergarten, transitional kindergarten, or preschool programs.
