Adolfson & Peterson Construction completes Northwest Independent School District’s Haslet Elementary School

Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) has completed Northwest Independent School District’s (ISD) Haslet Elementary School. Nicknamed “The Nest,” the school’s high-volume learning commons and library were designed to emulate a tree house and act as a central point for the facility. Adjacent to the learning commons are classrooms, additional flex space, and focus rooms with movable walls that allow teachers to scale learning environments outside of the classroom and create greater adaptability for learning of all types. The facility also features curtain walls to allow for natural light.

Glacier Eye Clinic in Kalispell, Montana

Glacier Eye Clinic, designed by Cushing Terrell, is a 29,000 sq. ft. building composed on a naturally sloping site, oriented to take full advantage of the views of Glacier National Park. The grand lobby was designed to capture an abundance of natural light and create a focal point and main entry that serves as a wayfinding destination throughout the large facility.

Nationalarenan 3 – Scandinavia’s first ‘Plushus’ hotel

Scandinavia’s first zero-energy hotel, Nationalarenan 3 in Arenastaden, is now in the final stages of completion. The building produces as much energy as it consumes and has now achieved FEBY ‘Gold Plushus’ certification. FEBY’s purpose as an organization is to increase and develop energy-efficient construction.

University of St. Thomas achieves top environmental rating for new residence hall

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded its highest environmental rating – the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification – to the University of St. Thomas’ Tommie East Residence Hall. The building is the first in the Midwest to certify platinum under the LEED v4 new construction rating system in its category, the sixth in the U.S. and seventh in the world. It marks another step in the university’s larger plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

Walsh/Consigli completes $545 million patient pavilion at Vassar Brothers Medical Center

Walsh Construction and joint venture partner Consigli Construction have completed Nuvance Health’s new 752,610-square-foot patient pavilion at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Designed by CallisonRTKL, the pavilion’s distinctive curved shape follows the aesthetic of the adjacent Hudson River. The building was designed and constructed to not only maximize patient care and comfort, but to deliver environmental benefits as well.

SOLARBAN® glasses enhance sustainable design of award-winning John W. Olver Design Building

Local architects Leers Weinzapfel Associates (LWA) carefully considered the site, solar orientation and placement of an interior courtyard to maximize daylighting and reduce demand for artificial lighting in the John W. Olver Design Building. These tactics helped drop electrical load for the structure by 54% compared to an average university building. As part of the first and largest cross-laminated timber academic building in the U.S., Solarban® 60 and Solarban® 70 glasses by Vitro Architectural Glass raise the sustainable design bar for the LEED® Gold-certified facility, which encompasses 87,500 square feet of classroom, office and community space.

MBH Architects completes mixed-use development, 300 Grant Ave.

MBH Architects announces the completion of 300 Grant Ave., a ground-up, 70,000-square-foot retail and office mixed-use development located in the heart of San Francisco’s downtown shopping district. “Union Square is in many ways a representation of San Francisco itself, with its large and small, tall and short, colorful and quaint buildings, all standing shoulder to shoulder in incredible harmony,” says John McNulty, Founding Principal and Architect, MBH Architects. “Engaging with this sense of rhythm was one of our design goals; we were intent on bringing to life a building that is complementary to the neighborhood and adds to the enjoyment of walking and being in the area.”

RDC has unveiled its designs for Erewhon, Silver Lake, the latest in a series from the organic grocer and café in the Los Angeles region.
