According to Jessica Musick, principal in KTGY’s Oakland office, Alameda Point senior apartments and family apartments meet the community’s vision for an inclusive redevelopment. With a focus on time and material efficiency, the new senior apartment development set record construction schedules by using panelized floor and wall systems. This delivery strategy reduced the construction schedule resulting in a 15-month construction timeline from groundbreaking to completion, Musick said.

SVA Architects’ design for the Twin Oaks Senior Residence Mixed-Use Project in Oakley, Calif. was inspired by the regional architecture, including City Hall, the downtown plaza, and Fire Station 51. The Spanish-revival style development will feature a red tiled roof, white and earth-tone stucco, and stone veneer. The project will also include 5,667 sq. ft. of commercial space, 188 parking spaces, and over 63,000 sq. ft. of open space on the 5.85-acre site.

OZ was selected for the architecture and interior design of the 92-unit community by Rocky Mountain Senior Housing, a leading developer of senior living communities that are designed to enrich the quality of life for older adults and their families.

Kinestral Technologies, Inc. and Halio International, S.A. announced yesterday at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo that Avondzon, a 160-bed residential care center in Belgium, has installed Halio® smart-tinting glass. Developed and manufactured by Kinestral, Halio was used for 132 skylights to create a “glass roof” that would deliver maximum daylight without sacrificing the comfort of residents and staff. Research has shown that seniors need three to five times more light than younger people because a lack of light stimuli can disrupt their biological clocks.

Cuningham Group Architecture, Inc., in partnership with owners Presbyterian Homes and Wesley Homes, recently broke ground on a 400,000-square-foot senior living campus in the Tehaleh Development in Bonney Lake, Washington. “When we first visited the site, we could feel this would be a very special place,” says Cuningham Group Associate Principal Amy Cheever, AIA, LEED AP®. “We were immediately inspired by the beautiful landscape and the fresh air that surrounds us. OZ Architecture has designed a new 126,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care community, Atria Westminster, in the City of Westminster, Colorado. OZ Architecture designed the five-story residential building with classic brick and stucco exterior and gabled roof to create congruity within the surrounding neighborhood, while interior design elements recall the natural landscape and iconic Colorado red rock formations.

HED announced last week the completion of the Silver Birch of Fort Wayne, an affordable senior-living community. The team sought to create a building that felt broken down into smaller volumes, so as to help both residents and visitors more easily feel at home in the space. This strategy also helps with wayfinding for seniors struggling with memory challenges. In addition, the team sought to protect the environment and minimize its impact on the landscape.
