With the AIA’s focus on environmental stewardship, the new and updated AIA Sustainable Project documents provide a roadmap to integrate sustainability into design and construction projects, as well as ensure less confusion when green project discussions begin. While there are already four versions of AIA sustainable project exhibits that attach to standard contracts, this update includes the new C204™-2020, Sustainability Consultant Scope of Services and the updated D503™-2020, Guide for Sustainable Projects.

U.S. Green Building Council launches global economic recovery strategy

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) today announced a new strategy, Healthy People in Healthy Places Equals a Healthy Economy, intended to leverage LEED and the community implementing the rating system to support buildings and communities in a post-pandemic world. The strategy is guided by the idea that prioritizing the health of people, communities and the planet is the fastest way to rebuild a healthier, more sustainable economy. A series of actions are underway, including launching emergency guidance and upgrades to the LEED green building program to ensure that it reflects the realities that buildings, and more importantly, the people inside them, will face in the near future.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced February 20 that it has published two new cold-formed steel test standards: 1) “AISI S921-19, Test Standard for Determining the Strength and Stiffness of Cold-Formed Steel Truss Assemblies and Components,” and 2) “AISI S922-19, Test Standard for Determining the Strength and Stiffness of Bearing-Friction Interference Connector Assemblies in Profiled Steel Panels.”

American Concrete Institute and Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute announce expanded partnership

This partnership formalizes efforts and expands the American Concrete Institute’s Committee 319, Precast Structural Concrete Code, into a joint committee cosponsored by both ACI and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.  ACI-PCI Committee 319 will develop and maintain structural concrete code requirements both unique to the design of precast concrete and complementary to ACI 318, “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.”

FGIA releases new Surface Temperature Assessment for Condensation Evaluation of Exterior Wall Systems

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) has developed a new document providing a standard procedure for the measurement of surface temperatures to be used in the condensation evaluation of exterior walls under laboratory conditions. “AAMA 501.9 is another optional test that can be performed in conjunction with a project specific curtain wall mock-up,” said Greg McKenna (Kawneer), vice chair of the Wall Mock-up Condensation Evaluation Work Group. “It uses a similar test apparatus to that used in AAMA 501.5, ‘Test Method for Thermal Cycling of Exterior Walls.'”

American Concrete Institute announces ACI 318-19 building code seminar dates for 2020

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) is offering a series of seminars to focus on the new ACI 318-19, Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary. The ACI 318-19 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete contains some of the most significant technical changes since the 1971 Code, and more than 100 additional pages of provisions compared to the 2014 Code.
