The new station significantly expands the original facility with two buildings connected by a signature skyway bridge over TH77/Cedar Avenue. The building’s design complements other stations on the Red Line.

Orlando International Airport’s South Intermodal Terminal Facility topped with Acurlite skylight, finished by Linetec

The ITF is expected to be the first building on the Orlando International Airport campus to meet the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® v4 certification standards. Featuring an 8,000-square-foot, heavy-duty commercial skylight, the ITF’s daylighting system helps connect those arriving and working within the space to the welcoming surroundings and Florida sunshine outside. Acurlite Structural Skylights, Inc. manufactured and installed the low-rise, segmented barrel vault skylight. Linetec provided stretch forming, thermally improvement and finishing of the skylight to meet the airport’s aesthetic, sustainability and high-performance requirements.

The design-build team of Hensel Phelps Construction Co, Stantec and partners, will deliver the new $218 million OMF East. Hensel Phelps and Stantec bring more than 140 combined years of design and construction experience to the project. The 165,000-square-foot facility will provide 14 service bays, a cleaning and wash bay, shop areas, parts storage, office space, and on-site parking for service and employee vehicles.

Due to the heavy industrial use of the facility, CENTRIA’s Formawall® Dimension Series® insulated metal panels were chosen to provide thermal efficiency as well as wind and flame resistance. The panels offer superior weather protection, and deliver a sleek façade. The CENTRIA metal wall panels were coated in Sherwin-Williams Coil Coating’s Fluropon® Classic metallic coating in the colors Pewter and Silversmith – providing an air-like aesthetic to the facility’s exterior with the main overcast gray tone perfectly accented by the dark gray.

Michael Baker announces completion of seagrass restoration demonstration project

Michael Baker International October 23, announced the completion of a seagrass restoration demonstration project as part of a larger safety improvement program at Merritt Island Airport in Brevard County, Florida. The firm, in partnership with Sea and Shoreline, LLC; the Brevard Zoo; and Titusville Cocoa Airport Authority, harvested seagrass from the end of the airport’s Runway 29, grew it in a nursery and replanted it at a one-acre seagrass island, known as the Rodney Thompson Seagrass Island, that was created as mitigation for unavoidable environmental impacts associated with the Merritt Island Airport Runway 11-29 Safety Area Improvements project.
