Sherwin-Williams curates 45 trending colors for 2020, spun into five welcoming and intuitive palettes
Sherwin-Williams announces its annual Colormix® Forecast, a collection of 45 hues that bring joy, serenity and focus to the mind, body and spirit. Sherwin-Williams states this year’s standout hues are expressed through five inspirational and balanced color collections that warmly welcome a new decade in home and commercial design: Alive, Mantra, Play, Haven and Heart.
“We expect 2020 to be an empowering year of change that will focus on bringing your best self into the new decade,” said Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Homeowners and designers alike are seeking warmth—colors that feel human and natural. The colors in these five palettes, when invited into our spaces, pave the way for wellness and self-nurturance.”
Wadden and the Global Forecast Team of color professionals at Sherwin-Williams spent the year researching color, design and pop culture trends across the globe, all culminating in a collaborative workshop to build the collection of simple, clean and essential hues. The forecast includes a wide spectrum of blues, shades of terracotta, warm neutrals, pinks and deep greens.
2020 Colormix Forecast Collections
Optimistic and authentic, Alive centers around being present and soaking up every moment. Nurturing neutrals are artfully arranged with rich blues and a deep, ripe olive that evoke a satisfying and rejuvenating sense of community and living well. When using this palette, incorporate materials and finishes that are locally-sourced, handmade and reflective of care and craftsmanship.
East meets West in this serene collection of softly muted neutrals that glide from warm to cool. Nordic simplicity entwines with the order and elegance of Japanese aesthetics to create a look that’s simple, yet utterly essential. Mantra lends itself to clean lines, minimal ornamentation, warm metals and rounded forms.
This energetic and clever palette exudes charm through buoyant, playful color. Anchored by a fresh, pure white, it’s peppered with surprising pops of bright pink, aqua and gold and balanced through monochromatic neutrals. Its mission is to add joy and warmth to every space it touches. Lean into Play by sourcing unique lighting, fun patterns and varied textures.
Like being welcomed home with open arms, this nature-inspired palette beckons to those who seek to transform their space into an oasis. Drawing upon Earth’s seasonal cycles, it features rich, yet subtle shades of sea, sand, forest and sky to organically bring the outdoors in. Extend Haven into décor through sustainably-sourced materials and biophilic features.
A confluence of genres and emotions, Heart is a unique fusion of iconic modern design mixed with an intergenerational boho vibe. From silky neutral tones to clove and soft coral, these hues are a meditation in comfort, connection and pleasures found in the everyday. This palette pairs well with retro-inspired accessories and warm, earthy finishes.
