Since its founding in 1841, the FLOOD® brand has earned its reputation as “The Wood Care Specialist.” Now, 175 years later, the Flood brand is now part of PPG, the global coatings innovator and leader, and has returned to its heritage using the new Flood Pro Series line of wood care products to restore the home of a founding family member.
Pete Flood, the fifth generation of the Flood family to have previously owned the brand, lives in Rhode Island, where the harsh coastal climate can have harmful effects on exterior wooden surfaces, such as decks, siding or roof shingles.
“Because of the water on the coast in this region, everything wears off within a few years of being exposed to the sun,” said Lee Boiani, owner of Elite Painting & Wallpapering in Newport, RI, who completed the refinishing project at Pete’s home. “The coastal climate of the area often presents challenges, but I have learned through the years that the best way to tackle the challenges that harsh weather presents is to find good products, like Flood Pro Series, that are durable.”
Boiani refinished Pete’s home in August, which included refinishing the siding and roof of Pete’s house, boat house, porch, and studio with Flood Pro Series CWF-UV®5, which offers UV protection, water repellency and penetrating protection below the wood surface.
“After 175 years, the Flood brand has earned its reputation as ‘The Wood Care Specialist’ by creating products that protect, preserve and beautify any wood project,” said Boiani. “The last time Pete’s house was refinished was in 2008, which really serves as a testament to the Flood brand’s long-lasting capabilities, considering the harsh Rhode Island weather.”
